Blogging: Yes, Your Blog Can Be Successful

Blogging: Yes, Your Blog Can Be Successful

Do you want more traffic to your blog? Building a readership can be a real challenge for many new bloggers. However it’s quite simple. You need to give your readers what they want: when you do, they will become loyal subscribers.

Here’s how to make your blog a success.

1. Who’s Your Audience? Do They Need Your Information?

Start by thinking about your audience.

Describe your typical reader in five sentences.

Tip: imagine just one reader, because it’s both confusing and intimidating to think of an audience of thousands of people. When you think about just one person, and direct your information to that person, your blogging will be warm and personal. Because you’re comfortable, your readers will be more comfortable too.

Now think about what your reader wants, and needs.

For example, if you have a weight loss blog and you’ve decided that your reader is an obese woman in her 30s, with a young family, and a full-time job, make a list of what she needs.

She may need healthy recipes she can cook in 20 minutes or less, information on nutrition, and tips on fighting cravings.

When you think in terms of your reader and the circumstances of his or her life, creating content for your blog is much easier and simpler — and you’ll never run out of content.

2. Are You Real? Your Blogging Needs a Personal Touch

If you’ve been using blog automation tools, stop that right now. Your blog should be carefully crafted. Anyone who tells you you can get readers with an automated blog is lying to you.

You can only be successful if you put yourself into your blog. Therefore, if you don’t already have an About page, create one right now. Tell your reader your story, and connect with him (or her).

3. Promote Your Blog Where Your Audience Hangs Out

You need to promote your blog, but don’t start promoting it until you have sufficient content on the blog. This will usually be when you have at least 10 to 20 great posts which are worth reading.

Remember that when you promote, first impressions count. You want readers to reach your blog, and subscribe to your RSS feed because the information is excellent.

In a nutshell, your blog will be as successful as you want it to be: put your heart into it.

Blogging makes a great home business

Identify What Works…. and Do it Again…. and Again….. Improving it Each Time

Here’s the thing – there’s no one technique that is going to bring every blog new traffic.

But if you try lots of different approaches and identify what does work – even if it only works a little – you’re on the way.

Find something that works for your blog, your niche, your demographic and then build upon that.

Some questions to help identify what is working (or what might work) with your readers and niche:

  • What topics generate most comments on your blog?
  • What topics generate most comments on other blogs in your niche?
  • What other sites do your readers visit a lot? What activities are they doing there?
  • What features are readers asking for?
  • What was your biggest traffic day – what brought it about?
  • Which of your posts seem to get Retweeted most on Twitter and passed around most on other social media sites?
  • Which of your posts are getting linked to most from other blogs/sites?
  • What other sites send you most traffic? How can you build relationships with these sites?

This list could go on and on – really it is about looking for points of life on your site (even small ones) where there’s some kind of energy or positive outcome happening – and then repeating them in some way – looking for opportunities to build upon and improve what you previously did.

Got any examples to share of where you’ve done this on your own blog?

Thanks for listening,

Veteran's Day November 11, 2009

Hello Veterans and Family Members,

My Name Is Bill Anderson,

I want to say a "Special Thanks To All The Veterans who are serving, there families, Loved ones and for those who will serve. I also want to thank specially the ones left behind because of the Special Veterans who gave the "Supreme Sacrifice" for all of us to live a peaceful life.

A special thanks to all families of the ones that have "Fallen recently in IRAQ, Afghanistan, and most recently "Fort Hood" in Texas.

We all know what we must do for our country once we join the Armed Forces, first be willing to follow the orders of those above us and second give our life for our country if that should arise. These are tough things to live with. How do I know, I am retired and disabled United States Navy and Navy Reserves Veteran.

The families of veterans have it so tough, never knowing when the service member will be home, called up or even months without contact. For that it is really tough it takes special people to be in the military. I salute the families, and all United States Navy, Navy Reserves, United States Marine Corps, United States Marine Corps Reserves, United States Air Force, Air Force Reserves, United States Army, Army Reserves, United States Coast Guard, and Coast Guard Reserves and The Army National Guard, Air National Guard and everyone who have served and will serve. God Bless America and God Bless You, "Thank You For Your Service" you all are truly appreciated.

God is blessing us all.

God bless America,

William R. Anderson Jr

Subject: CAN SPAM and You

SPAM got to be such a major problem for so many people in this country that Congress actually had to do something about it.

There was a lot of discussion (as well as just cussin) and email marketers were really afraid of what would happen to their businesses when this act was passed in 2003.

For More Information Visit:
http://homeincomeportal.com/wiland697/fp88.htm

There was, however, some lead time and email marketers set up opt-in lists to use rather than just sending our bulk unsolicited emails. It turned out that the CAN SPAM act was actually a blessing to legitimate email marketers.

The ones that got hurt were the unscrupulous ones who sent out that awful porn and sexually explicit type emails to unsuspecting recipients when the act became the law of the land in January of 2004.

Before CAN SPAM, most people would find hundreds of emails in the in boxes each and every day. The ones from their friends and families were buried somewhere in the pile of unsolicited bulk emails.

The emails from their friends and families, as well as, those from legitimate email marketers were all lumped together in one huge stack and people were far less than happy with the situation.

The law that made email marketers create opt-in lists has actually turned out to be a very good thing. The emails that are sent are sent only to those who want to get them and are most likely to act on the messages included in them.

Take a look at:
http://homeincomeportal.com/wiland697/fp88.htm

Of course, everybody still gets at least some SPAM everyday or almost everyday.

The SPAMMERS simply change email addresses and continue to send SPAM but the problem is slowly coming under control which is a real boon to all email recipients as well as to legitimate email marketers.

The penalties provided in the law are stiff and are a great deterrent to those who would like to send SPAM.

Subject: Types of Aquarium Plants

There are two basic types of plants for aquariums, stemmed plants and basal rosette plants.

Plants that grow upward and are leafy or along the bottom of the tank are called identified as stemmed plants.

For More Information Visit:
http://homeincomeportal.com/wiland697/fp24.htm

Basal rosette plants grow with the nodes close together, and the root area resembles a rosette, their leaves and roots appear to grow from one center.

Floating plants are actually another type of plants that can be either stemmed or basal rosette; however, they do not have to be attached to the ground.

Many aquarium plants started out as swamp plants, which grew in and bloomed in the air. However, they adapted to the floods that are common in the tropics so they can be cultivated underwater. These frequently grow outside of the tank and must be trimmed on a regular basis to keep them inside the aquarium.

There are around 200 plants that are useful for aquarium use; a good aquarium plant book will provide you with any information you wish to know about them. Some of the more common and most frequently used plants are:

* Mosses -- a primitive plant identified by bank-like, forked articulate (jointed) plant bodies. While some mosses are used as floating decoration, they are an excellent substrate for spawning; they can also be attached to roots, rocks or the back wall of your tank. They will soon overgrown the attachment points and appear to be growing naturally.

* Ferns -- normally have coarse leaves and are ideal for an aquarium because they are harder for fish to eat. As a matter of fact, fish seldom eat ferns. They are also very easy to grow in darker areas as they are not too particular about the amount of light they require.

Ferns multiply with little effort and should be considered for their decorative qualities. As ferns age, they have a tendency to get black spots; these leaves should be removed.

Planting your aquarium is strictly controlled by your tastes and desires. A good book on aquarium plants can be obtained from your pet store; however, many books on aquariums also contain a section on plants.

Subject: To Aerate, or Not to Aerate?

The beginner aquarist may believe that an aerator, or air pump, is an essential part of an aquarium. While this was a strongly held belief in the past, there are some who no longer abide by this belief.

The plants and fish in our aquarium create quite differing reactions to the proportions of gases (oxygen and carbon dioxide) in the aquarium.

For More Information Visit:
http://homeincomeportal.com/wiland697/fp23.htm

While plants use carbon dioxide and create oxygen, the fish use oxygen and create carbon dioxide.

This also occurs with the plants in the dark -- they no longer create oxygen, but carbon dioxide. This puts them in competition with the fish for oxygen in the dark!

When fish stand around gasping in a beautiful, plant-filled aquarium, it is not from a lack of oxygen but from an excess of carbon dioxide! Aerators are switched on to remove the carbon dioxide to enhance the exchange of the carbon dioxide with oxygen.

This situation only occurs in aquariums with an abundance of plants and ones that are overstocked with fish.

A well-balanced aquarium can be maintained without aeration, at least during the day; and fertilization with carbon dioxide should only be done during the day, when photosynthesis can be used by the plants to absorb this excess.

With an aquarium that is lacking in sufficient plants or crowded tanks, an aerator can save the lives of the fish!

However, by using a filter that creates an adequate overturn of water, we can again avoid the aerator.

Take a look at:
http://homeincomeportal.com/wiland697/fp23.htm

In most instances, a filter will be sufficient and preferable to an aerator.

Another positive effect of water turnover is that there are no warm areas in your tank. In some aquariums, the surface of the water is several degrees warmer than the water in the bottom. This temperature change is not healthy for either the fish or the plants.

Aerators can be best used for preparing fish to breed or when raising young. A good filter will eliminate the need for an aerator.

Subject: Thinning Your Aquarium Plants

Superseding and correcting the landscaping is part of the monthly care of your aquarium.

Using a scissors or your fingernails remove any dead or brown leaves from the plants.

Shorten plants that have grown too tall by cutting them below the stipules (joints of the plant), removing the lower leaves, and replanting the new shoots that have been formed by this trimming.

For More Information Visit:
http://homeincomeportal.com/wiland697/fp22.htm

The less attractive lower leaf can be removed unless you wish to grow more of these plants -- in which case you should leave the stem parts in the soil, as they will usually grow new shoots.

Verify that individual groups of plants have not sent stringers into other groups of plants and become twisted.

The purpose of thinning your plants is to allow more light into the aquarium, thus allowing the plants to grow more.

Remember that each time you transplant a plant from one location to another it needs time to acclimate to that location. The thing to remember when your aquarium is well established is to transplant only when it is really necessary.

The plants that float on the surface absorb a lot of the light, and the plants in the lower layers have to fight for light. As pretty as floating plants are, they take away a lot of light from the lower plants and should be kept to a minimum.

Thin only when it is absolutely necessary, usually because you have too many plants. At the same time try to preserve the combination of the plants as you originally planted them.

Take a look at:
http://homeincomeportal.com/wiland697/fp22.htm

In the first few months after planting, it is important to touch the plants as little as possible. But once your aquarium has become established, you can exchange those groupings that you don't like or are not attractive with other, more decorative plants.

Subject: The Pleasure of the New Orleans Aquarium

To many visitors arriving in New Orleans, the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas is not among the sites they plan to see; therefore, if they do go, it is a big surprise!

Their faces show amazement as soon as they step through the door.

For More Information Visit:
http://homeincomeportal.com/wiland697/fp21.htm

The aquarium is huge and has dozens of incredible displays of marine life.

And even though they are listed as “off the beaten path,” most visitors don't agree with this assessment. It is, after all, located at the
river end of Canal Street. Visitors claim it is worth the time it takes to visit the aquarium.

Being an indoor facility, the aquarium is climate-controlled, a nice place to take children, and an excellent place to get away from the oppressive heat or bone-chilling cold of New Orleans.

Tickets can be purchased at the door with the added benefit of being able to get a discount if you purchase tickets for the zoo at the same time.

Some of the amazing exhibits include 19 penguins, (but no snow because they aren't Arctic penguins), their sea otter friends Buck and Emma, and a seahorse-breeding exhibit where you can go right up to the tank!

You can also enjoy a leisurely stroll through an overhead tank and view all species of fish, including a three-legged turtle named...“Lucky”? (Is he lucky to be in the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas?)

Hurricane Katrina nearly destroyed this New Orleans landmark, which was once a source of great pride to the residents.

Take a look at:
http://homeincomeportal.com/wiland697/fp21.htm

However with the diligent efforts of a group of volunteers called “Storm Riders” and aquariums in California and Texas, among other states, some of the marine life were saved, including 19 penguins that got an all-expense-paid trip to California with their sea otter friends!

On their return to New Orleans, they were greeted at the airport with a brass band, and it was seen by some as a sign that the life of New Orleans was coming back.

Subject: The Importance of Plants in Your Aquarium

Ecosystems like lakes, rivers, and forests are naturally balanced due to self-regulation. Because of natural cycles, they are basically self-sufficient.

A predominant position is held by the green plants, which store the sun in the form of sugar, fats, and proteins that serve as food for the animal and vegetable life they maintain.

For More Information Visit:
http://homeincomeportal.com/wiland697/fp20.htm

In your aquarium, the plants hold the same valuable importance, and should be treated with care. Only plants can use light to transform inorganic elements into nutrients.

However, plants need small organisms such as bacteria, fungi, etc. (which break down dead organic substances into their basic elements) in order to continue to produce these nutrients.

Between these two, there is a natural balance that allows the plants to do the job they were designed to perform.

Looking at our aquarium along these lines, we see that without constant interference from us, this balance would be in great danger.

We must add food and possibly fertilizer, remove dead plants and animals, remove waste products with partial water changes, and siphon off excess debris from the aquarium.

Because of the various appliances available to create gas exchanges (oxygen and carbon dioxide) in our tanks, plants can be completely eliminated from an aquarium.

However, if we wish to maintain a more natural healthy system and provide our fish with oxygen and hold down the level of nitrogen, plants are the simplest most efficient means.

Take a look at:
http://homeincomeportal.com/wiland697/fp20.htm

Plants also help maintain the level of algae growth. A healthy planting is a great preventative against algae that can overrun your tank.

Planting an aquarium with a large variety of plants can be very expensive, and it is best to start with the less expensive plants, planting them in bunches.

After the aquarium is established, you can replace these with the more decorative and attractive plants that you prefer.

Bill Anderson
